JUAN'S MISSIONARY TRIP TO JAPAN

What is it?

Hello! I'm Juan, and I believe God is calling me to be a missionary in Japan. To that end, I'm partnering with the organization Reaching Japan and my church here in Ecuador, C3 (Ievi Iñaquito), for a long-term mission in which I will attend a Japanese language academy while gradually integrating into and serving at a local church in the city of Nagoya. To accomplish this mission, I am seeking support, both financial and through prayer.

¿Why Japan?

Japan has less than 1% Christians, so there is a large group of people who need to hear the Gospel. Japan may seem like a fairly good country, but beneath the surface, there is a great need for Jesus. Just to give a few examples, there is no forgiveness, your worth comes from your work and achievements, and the work culture is one of the harshest and most toxic. These and other problems contribute to one of the highest suicide rates in the world, as well as an epidemic of loneliness. During my year as a missionary in the UK, I met many wonderful Japanese students, most of whom were not Christians, and through long and enjoyable conversations, I noticed many of these cultural problems. But it was also a great blessing to be able to share the gospel with them and see how much it means to them. It would be an honor if I could personally continue my work with them in Japan.

Finally, there are multiple ways to come to know God. I came to know God primarily through art, and only in this last year did I realize that a large part of that art is Japanese. Just as the people of Athens found God (Acts 17) through their own searching, God is revealing himself to many Japanese people, and many are coming to know him through their own culture, and I would like to help them in that.

The internship lasts two years, but the mission can be extended indefinitely. I know very well that Japan has a great need for many long-term missionaries. So I see this internship as just the beginning of my service in Japan, a time to get to know the culture and master the language. I feel called to invest much more of my life in sharing God in Japan, so please view this mission as a long-term investment in evangelism and ministry in Japan.

Who is Reaching Japan?

The Miyashita family (James, Rosie, and their three children) serve as church-planting missionaries in Japan. They have been in Japan since 2019 and in Nagoya since 2021. They are currently planting a church in Japan's third-largest metropolitan area, and their goal is to plant a church in each of Nagoya's 16 wards by 2030.
